2022 Futurity Overview

Yet another amazing prestigious Futurity Show & Sale was held this year, the competition being even tougher than last — but the RGR animals held there own and won some exciting purple, blue, red, and white ribbons. Our show team this year at the Futurity was made up of a few 2-year-olds creeping up on there third birthday (thankfully making the cut for there final Futurity show appearance), quite a few yearlings and some wobbly juveniles even made the cut!

We started off the Futurity weekend strong with selling our auction lot, Red Granites Brooklyn By Val D Lsere to our good friends at Eagle Eye Farm! Brooklyn joined her paternal-sister Red Granites Plié By Val D Lsere and distant relative Red Granites Alyeska at EEF, adding to there already amazing lineup of alpacas. She will be spending the summer with us to get bred to Estates Passionate Fever then she will head to her forever home.

After that late night auction we then went into the actual show, and oh boy was it a fun show weekend! The excitement of Red Granites Alydar By Val D Lsere taking home the Grey Male Color Champion banner as a 2-year-old was probably the most exciting win we have had yet — very few GRAY alpacas have won the Futurity Gray Color Champion banner for two-years in a row, so we were pretty happy! In the female ring, Red Granites Sizlin Dosita (an exciting True Black Sizzy daughter) took home top honors as the Black Female Reserve Color Champion winner being pulled from right behind the Color Champion winner and RGR Tell The World By Val D Lsere took home the Fawn Female Reserve Color Champion banner, also being pulled from right behind the Color Champion winner.

But onto the exciting part, just a few days ago we got the exciting news of overall Herdsires of the Year and who won them. We are proud to say that Red Granites Val D Lsere won the 2022 Futurity Herdsire of the Year Dark-Colored Offspring trophy for the SECOND year in a row! We are incredibly happy and excited to see how his future will progress!

2022 Amber Autumn Auction Ends with a BANG!

This years Amber Autumn Auction was one of the best yet. A total of 57 alpacas from all over the United States and 2 from Canada, the average sales price per animal was $17,000, with the highest-seller being $42,000, which was an unproven medium fawn male consigned by Amber Autumn Alpacas. The total gold pot from the auction was just under $1 million....

We had a lot of success with our auction lots, pens were full all weekend with a lot of interest. We consigned our best this year so our hopes were pretty high...RGR USA Pride By Val D Lsere ended up selling for a grand total of $41,000, she became the highest-selling female of the Auction and drew up a lot of attention with her conformation and dense fleece. Pride was purchased by our friends in Texas; Tierra Prometida Alpacas. She adds to their already stellar foundation lineup of females, and joins her true black paternal half-sister, Scarlett! Red Granites Sizlin Spit N Smoke ended up staying in Colorado, being purchased by Flying Iron Ranch Alpacas for $35,000. Red Granites Chelsee By Val D Lsere was purchased for $15,000 by a co-ownership between Bob and Kelly Foster of Hickory Meadow Alpaca Farm and Patrick of Glengary Farms!

We never come home from this auction empty handed, or at least this time we didnt....We proudly welcome Pallaton's Kalibaut Alyst from KJ Alpacas of Canada to Red Granite Ranch. Kalibaut is a daughter of Red Granites Pallaton who is on his way to Poland. We sold Pallaton to KJ Alpacas back at the 2017 Amber Autumn Auction, where he became a Supreme Champion later on for them. We are excited to see where her future lies!

2021 Futurity is in the Books!

We are on our way home from the 2021 Futurity Show & Sale. It took last night to settle in to how well we actually did at the show. The excitment of Red Granites Alydar By Val D Lsere taking the Judges' Choice award as a gray male was a bit of a suprise for Marc and I, but nothing less we are extremely happy and proud to he won that prestigious 'Judges' Choice' award and became the first AOA Registered Grey alpaca to win the Futurity Judges' Choice! All of the other Val D Lsere progeny did extremely well: Casper took home the White Male Color Championship, Sassafras took White Female Reserve Color Championship, and a bunch of first, seconds, and thirds were won by the other half of the 'Val crew'.

The Sales half of the Futurity was equally as impressive as the show itself, as per usual. A True Black Val D Lsere daughter was offered by Odins Fall Alpacas and was the highest selling alpacas that night! We offered two animals at this years Futurity Sale; a full-brother to Val D Lsere (Verbier) and one of Val D Lsere's daughters from our 2019 crop (Clare). Robert Sash of Tiskilwa Farms ended up purchasing Red Granites Clare By Val D Lsere while Dale and Stephanie of St. Peter's, MO purchased Red Granites Verbier.

It was wonderful seeing everyone again. The competition was tough but the atmosphere friendly and fun. Thank you Teresa and Tm Vincent for yet another wonderful event. :)

2021 TXOLAN Double Show in the Books!

Marc, Me, and Granddaughter Cadence smile after Dinner!

Marc, Me, and Granddaughter Cadence smile after Dinner!

Marc and I have been trying to re-group and count our blessings after returning from the TXOLAN Double Show. We feel pretty lucky that we have only a foot of snow and cold but nothing all those folks in TX have.

We took 18 animals and between the two shows and walking fleece we took 10 Color Champions, 3 Reserve Champions and one Judges Choice. We had 5 Val D Lsere offspring and 7 of our clients brought an additional 8 of Val's offspring. I am extremely proud to announce that Val's offspring won 6 Color Champions, 3 Reserve Champions and 1 Reserve Color Fleece Champion. None of his offspring scored lower than 3rd and were represented by juveniles all the way to mature males. I want to thank the following farms for bringing their Val D Lsere offspring to the show and representing him so well.

Alpacas of Moose Creek - Off The Rez
Flying Iron Ranch - Avalanche
Pulse Ranches - Valita
Irish Meadows - Girl Crush
Odin Falls Farm - Scarlett O'Hara & Lovebug
Happy Tails Alpaca Farm & Holdfast Farm - Diva's Versace
Tierra Prometida Alpacas - Criterium

Saying Goodbye to an Old Soul: Lionheart's Connagher

Today we had to say good-bye to one of our oldest (19yrs) Herdsires, Lionhearts Connagher.

This male was a gentle sole except when it came to competition for the females. He considered our whole female herd his herd. This was true up till the end. We purchased Connagher 10 years ago from Crescent Moon Ranch. They told us then that this 9 year old male was something special, and believe me he was. At the age of 19 Connagher still ranked in the top 1% of EPD's for AFD, SD, SF, and %>30. He was in the top 25% in Mean Curivature and top 10% in medulated fibers. His mark was truly lasting fineness. If we could wish him back to good health believe me we would. Right now we wish him green pastures with lots of females. Bye, Bye good buddy.

Thank you to EP Cambridge Alpacas!

We would LOVE to say a huge thank you to EP Cambridge Alpacas on purchasing Red Granites Sizlin Vegas and Red Granites Pecos Pete at the 2018 AOA National Show, later purchasing Vegas.

It is not everyday we sell a full-sibling to our mega champion male Red Granites Val D Lsere, and seeing as the sibling in question is a female and Futurity Champion she will be missed very much! We announce the sale of Red Granites Sizlin Vegas who has been purchased by EP Cambridge Alpacas and will be leaving for AUS in summer of 2021 after having her offspring here at Red Granite Ranch. She had a female by CCNF Legionnaire in 2019 and a male by Creed in 2020.

Red Granites Pecos Pete has been on the Matthew and Cathy's radar since he was a juvenile, which at that age was a respected four-time champion. "Having Criss Crossed the USA countless times over the last couple of years we have found the BLACK males worthy of heading to Australia shortly. After following Pecos Pete since spotting him as a Juvie we were delighted to purchase him at this years USA National Show from Red Granite Stud. This 3 year old boy will be just one of the Black males heading to HQ shortly. His Fineness and Density are superb for a black Alpaca." - Cathy Lloyd.

These two animals carry our BEST genetic lines and we are so happy that they are now going to be seen in AUS!

2018 Amber Autumn Auction ends with AUS bound alpacas!

HUGE congrats to EP Cambridge Alpacas of Australia for the purchase of Red Granites Pixie (Lot #23 @ 2018 Amber Autmn Auction)!

Here we sold one of Legionnaire's finest Dark-Colored females on the ranch who also comes with a breeding to the PROVEN 3X AOA National Supreme Champion also closed to outside breedings; Red Granites Val D Lsere, quite a package here folks.

There is no doubt in our minds that she will make an outstanding foundation female for a colored breeding program. Pixie's pedigree highlights champion after champions on both sides. There are multiple Futurity Champions, AOA/AOBA Champions, and even a Futurity Herdsire of the year winners. She carries a very fine, dense fleece that is extremely bright and uniform across the blanket. All to be expected when the Snowmass Matrix Majesty/Snowmass Legacy Gold line meets Presido.
